Reports and Announcements
  • Trust for America’s Health, Healthy Schools Campaign and Community Catalyst released a new brief detailing how states are expanding their school-based Medicaid programs under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ free care policy reversal. The brief highlights 13 states who have made or proposed changes to their state Medicaid plan and/or passed legislation to increase flexibility in their school-based Medicaid programs.
  • Registration is now open for the American Public Health Association’s second annual Speak for Health Advocacy Bootcamp, which will take place from July 15th – 16th. APHA is calling on all public health students and early-career professionals who want to take action, change the direction of our country and build a better public health system through advocacy. Attendees will learn the basics of how to advocate for evidence-based public health policies, how to amplify advocacy efforts using social media, and how to influence policymakers directly. Contact Gaby Witte at gabriella.witte@apha.org for more information.

  • The Center for Science in the Public Interest is circulating this organizational sign-on letter to the House and Senate Agriculture -FDA Appropriations Subcommittees supporting funding for consumer awareness campaigns for menu labeling. The deadline to join the letter is April 19th.
  • The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials is looking for organizations to join the 22 by 22 campaign, an initiative urging Congress to increase funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 22 percent by fiscal year 2022 (FY22). For more information or to sign onto the campaign, contact Carolyn Mullen at cmullen@astho.org.
  • The American Lung Association is launching the “Year of Air Pollution & Health” (YAPH) in 2019 to increase public education and engagement around air pollution, climate change and health. Each month of the year will focus on a different aspect of air pollution and climate change – from major pollution sources, to vulnerable populations, to steps everyone can take to protect the air we all breathe. January’s focus is all about the impact of air pollution on real people like you. We would love to hear why healthy air matters to you! Please take a minute to fill out this short survey to let us know why you fight for healthy air.
  • If your organization is part of a local partnership that is sharing data with other sectors to improve individual or community health, consider participating in the National Inventory of Data Sharing Collaborations for Health, a nationwide survey conducted by Data Across Sectors for Health (DASH) on behalf of All In: Data for Community Health. Contributions will inform a national analysis of community partnerships that are systematically sharing data across sectors to drive population health improvement. The results will highlight opportunities to advance a common agenda that can help support and expand this crucial work.
