The H1N1 influenza pandemic required a quick response from the nation’s public health system. With only six weeks of lead time between identification of the virus and its spread to the United States, a national strategy had to manifest itself at the local level in the form of strong coordination and communication with local institutions/organizations and adaptable policies and practices.
