DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
A Diversity Scholarship Fund has been established for the 9th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth conference, February 4-6, in Seattle, Washington.
The goal of the scholarship fund is to:
- More effectively engage leaders from disadvantaged communities in the conference by assisting them with covering their registration fees and some of their travel costs to participate; and
- Diversify the conference audience in an effort to ensure that it is more reflective of our nation’s real population.
Those eligible to apply for a Diversity Scholarship include:
- Minority community leaders and community members
- Leaders from lower-income communities
- Representatives from organizations whose work is primarily focused on social equity and environmental justice
The January 15th deadline has been extended. For more information, contact Shani Alford at (916) 448-1198, ext. 330 or salford@lgc.org as soon as possible.
The conference features informative plenaries, sessions, and pre-conference activities, including:
- A plenary featuring U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson (confirmed), U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood (confirmed), and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan (invited);
- Numerous panel sessions on equitable development topics;
- A plenary on the green economy and equity, with Angela Glover Blackwell and Majora Carter;
